Casino tokens at a decentralized crypto casino: what each one does and whether you need it
Money on-chain · tokens
Almost every platform has a token, and they do very different jobs: a betting chip, a gas coin, a governance and staking token, a profit share. Only one of the six live platforms we checked makes you bet in its token. Here is what each token is for, from the platforms' own docs.
Casino tokens get a lot of attention and cause a lot of confusion. Some are the currency you bet in. Some pay for gas. Some give holders a say in the protocol or a share of revenue. A few exist mainly for marketing. For a player the first question is simple: do I need to hold this to bet? For most platforms the answer is no.
The tokens of the six live platforms
| Token | Platform | What it does | Needed to bet? |
|---|---|---|---|
| WINR | WINR Protocol / JustBet | Casino chip, bankroll asset and liquidity layer; fixed supply 1,000,000,000 | Yes, on JustBet |
| AZUR | Azuro / Bookmaker.xyz | Staking (stAZUR) and a Schelling-point token for disputes; 1B supply | No; bets are in USDT on Polygon |
| OVER | Overtime | Governance, and collateral with reduced margin | No; USDC and WETH also accepted |
| SX | SX Bet | Gas token of the SX network; staking | For gas on SX Rollup; bets in USDC |
| DESU | Dexsport | Staking and trading rewards; BEP-20 on BNB Chain | No |
| — | Gamba | Pools per SPL token; no single platform token needed | No |
WINR: the chip is the token
WINR is the clearest case of a token you can't avoid. On the WINR Protocol it is the casino chip, the bankroll's asset and its liquidity layer at the same time. Players deposit USDC and it is swapped into WINR automatically; balances still display in dollars, but everything settles in WINR. That means your balance is exposed to WINR's price while you play. The protocol's docs also say its previous staking system has been retired.
AZUR and OVER: optional
AZUR is Azuro's token: holders can stake it as stAZUR, and it plays a role in resolving disputes. You bet on Bookmaker.xyz in the bet token of the chain, USDT on Polygon, not in AZUR. OVER is Overtime's governance token, and you can use it as collateral with a lower margin; USDC and WETH work just as well.
SX: the gas token
On SX Rollup, SX is what gas is paid in, the way ETH is on Arbitrum. You bet in USDC. So you need a little SX for transactions, not for stakes.
Tokens at account casinos
Account casinos have tokens too, and they are sometimes the reason a casino gets called decentralized.
- SHFL at Shuffle is an ERC-20 you can withdraw to your own wallet.
- RLB at Rollbit launched on Solana in November 2021 and moved to Ethereum; Solana RLB stopped being supported from 1 May 2024.
- TGC at TG.Casino pays stakers a weekly share of profit in ETH, 60% split among the stakers, with buybacks and burns.
- BC Token appears in BC.Game's site menu.
These are real tokens on public chains. Your casino balance at each of these sites is still an account the operator holds. The token and the casino are two separate things.
Before you buy any casino token
- Separate playing from holding. A token's price can fall regardless of how many bets the platform takes.
- Read what it does in the docs. Chip, gas, governance or revenue share, and whether those rules have changed. WINR retired its previous staking system; Rollbit dropped Solana RLB.
- Check the address. Tokens are easy to copy. Use the contract address from the platform's own docs: WINR on Arbitrum is published by the protocol, DESU is linked from Dexsport's docs.
We don't give investment advice and don't score tokens. The wallet-fit score gives a point to platforms that let you bet without buying their token; see how we score. Betting in stablecoins instead is covered in stablecoins and bridges, and each platform's currency is shown on the decentralized crypto casino ranking.
